Subscription & Billing
Overview
Your docs101 subscription gives you access to invoicing, compliance, and export features. This guide explains the available plans, how billing works, and how to manage your subscription.

- Open the Payments tab

Invoice Limits
Both plans have a monthly limit on the number of invoices you can finalize (set to OPEN status). You can create and edit unlimited draft invoices — only finalized invoices count toward your limit.
| Plan | Monthly Limit |
|---|---|
| Free | 3 invoices |
| Professional | 100 invoices |
How the limit works
- Only finalized invoices count. Draft and canceled invoices do not count toward the limit.
- The limit resets based on your billing cycle. For Professional plans, this follows the Stripe billing period. For Free plans, it resets monthly based on your account creation date.
- Once you reach the limit, you cannot finalize any more invoices until the next billing period begins.
Tracking your usage
You can see how many invoices you have used in the current period in two places:
- Dashboard — A dedicated KPI card shows your current usage with a progress bar
- Subscription page (Plans tab) — Shows your usage alongside your current plan details
Both display the number of invoices used, the total limit, and the date when the limit resets.
When you reach the limit
When you try to finalize an invoice after reaching your limit:
- Free plan: A dialog appears with a link to upgrade to the Professional plan. You are redirected to the Subscription page where you can upgrade instantly.
- Professional plan: A dialog appears with contact information. For limits beyond 100 invoices per month, contact team@docs101.com for a custom arrangement.
Upgrading resets your counter
When you upgrade from Free to Professional, a new billing period starts and your invoice counter resets to zero.
Common Questions
Q: Can I try all features before paying?
- A: Yes, the Free plan includes all core features. The only limit is 3 finalized invoices per month.
Q: Do I get a refund if I cancel mid-cycle?
- A: No, but you retain access until the end of your paid period. Refund policies are managed by Stripe.
Q: What happens to my data if I downgrade?
- A: All your data (invoices, customers, products, exports) is preserved. You simply cannot finalize more than 3 invoices per month on the Free plan.
Q: What if my payment fails?
- A: Stripe retries automatically. Your Professional plan limits remain active during this time. After repeated failures, your subscription may eventually be canceled by Stripe, reverting you to the Free plan. Update your payment method in the Stripe Customer Portal.
Q: Is there a long-term contract?
- A: No. Monthly plans can be canceled anytime. Yearly plans run for one year and can be canceled at renewal.
Q: Do draft invoices count toward my limit?
- A: No. Only finalized invoices (status OPEN or beyond) count. You can create and edit as many drafts as you like.
Q: What happens if I need more than 100 invoices per month?
- A: Contact team@docs101.com for a custom plan that fits your volume.
